Helvetica is a neo-grotesque design, one influenced by the famous 19th century (1890s) typeface Akzidenz-Grotesk and other German and Swiss designs. Product Sans is mainly used in the text of Google's numerous services' logotypes such as Maps, Drive, News, Earth, etc. Helvetica or Neue Haas Grotesk is a widely used sans-serif typeface developed in 1957 by Swiss typeface designer Max Miedinger with input from Eduard Hoffmann. The differences between the logo and Product Sans allows for distinction between the Google logotype and product name.
Slight modifications do exist in the logo compared to the typeface: the most noticeable is the slanted 'e'. There’s no way to change that, but you can kind of get around it.
